Python
Python is a high-level, general-purpose programming language. Its design emphasises code readability, using significant indentation instead of braces to mark blocks of code. Python is dynamically typed and manages memory automatically through garbage collection.
- Python 3, the current version of the language, is used in web development, data analysis, machine learning, automation, scientific computing and education.
- It supports several programming styles – procedural, object-oriented and functional – and comes with a large standard library plus thousands of third-party packages such as NumPy and pandas.
- Python code is usually shorter than equivalent code in languages such as Java or C++, and its indentation rules keep programs consistently readable.
- It is widely used across the software industry, from start-ups to large technology companies, and in research and teaching.
